FEMA, Alaskan Company Shortchanges Mississippi - News - MSNBC.com
Mississippi is only receiving 1.8 percent of the FEMA rebuilding contracts. This seems to be a very low percent considering that this state was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Katrina. It seems the federal government is still screwing the people over. This time by not awarding rebuilding contracts to contractor from MS thereby stymieing much needed jobs that could be created, rebuilding the states depleted revenue system, and rebuilding hope for its people.
Some might see this a melodramatic or bellyaching by a Mississippian but you do the math. To quote the article:
"A Washington Post investigation revealed $2 billion worth of government contracts given out, but only 3.8 percent are done by companies in Alabama, 2.8 percent in Louisiana and just 1.8 in Mississippi.
Added together, it's less than $200 million or a $2 billion pool."
That's tax revenue that will not be generated (schools underfunded, state workers underpaid, state funded programs cut). Oh and by the way minority companies, their percentage is less than that.

The Road of Life - Who's Driving Your Car?
The road of Life has many twist and turns. It's filled with S curves and hair pin turns. My curves so far have been my mother's illness. It's hard to see someone who's been your rock throughout your life crying from pain. How do you deal with it all? How do you deal with seeing someone whom you are very, very close to in agonizing pain daily? It's a good thing that I'm not driving my own car through Life. I have a wonderful driver. He is the best at navigating these dangerous roads. He knows exactly when a pit stop is needed, He knows exactly when to speed up and slow down. I'm thankful for His expertise, the blessings, and the moves He's made in my life.

Hurricane Rita
My mom has taken a lot of good natured ribbing from her friends and children this week. It's because she shares the same name as the new hurricane that is tearing through the Gulf of Mexico. And the storm made it to a category 5. We joked with my mother saying that she's sitting in the gulf trying to figure out who pissed her off more and whose a** she's going to kick. If the storm is anything like my mother when she is protecting her children or someone has wronged her, my advice for everyone in its path is to run for the hills because it ain't going to be nothing nice.
My prayer are with my family, friends, and the citizens of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Murphy's Law
Murphy's Law never fails. Example...Its the first day you are to report to your new job as a contract worker. Its 5:20 am and you are in your car getting ready to leave. You shift into drive and lo and behold, your car will not shift from first gear into second gears. Now that is Murphy's Law.

True Friendship
True friendship, its about sacrifice, compromise, having fun, being able to share, and being yourself with each other. I have been blessed to have 4 true friends, best friends, walk with me in my life, my mom included. They have all stood with me throughout my good times and bad as I've been there for them. True friendship is when you wake up at 11:00 pm answer the phone, hang up, and get dressed. I drove 3 hrs so that she could pick up more clothes, back up the files on her computer, and pick up very important papers from her job. We took an hour nap that lasted for 4 then she drove back to our hometown. Why because Hurricane Katrina is sitting in the Gulf of Mexico churning, building up strength while she decides who's a$$ she's going to kick. Would I do it again knowing I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before because the same friend woke me up at 8:30 am to go picnicing with her and her goddaughter? YES! Why? Because she is my bestfriend, my sister, my true friend.
So Hurricane Katrina bring it on, we will survive you. I know at least one computer that has been backed up. I know several important documents that are safe. And I know two friends that have another crazy story to one day tell their grandkids.

By Any Means Necessary!

With Big Brother breathing down our necks telling us when, where, and how we can live our lives, how are we to keep our young men and young women out of prisons? If we can't punish our children without fear of being thrown in jail or having them taken from us how will we keep them from being statistics? There is a difference between abusing a child and punishing your child. Some parents cross that line and need to be put under the jail for a very long time. But most parents are good parents trying to keep their children safe from the evils throughout the world today. My nephews and my godchildren will not be statistics!

Hell's Kitchen
I'm a reality TV buff and I love Hell's Kitchen. Gordon Ramsey, what can you say? He puts these potential chefs through so much. He yell's at them, curses them, makes them work without air in a hot kitchen, belittles them on national television and for what? The ultimate prize for these contestants, to have their own restaurant. Gordan Ramsey is a master chef with many Michelin stars under his belt for his many restaurants. ITV launched a Hell's Kitchen where Chef Ramsey had two weeks to turn celebrities into Michelin star chefs. Monday night he ousted my favorite character, Elsie, who though she had no formal training other than cooking for six kids, lasted to the final four. Before her leaving Chef Ramsey complimented Elsie on what a great person she was and I was like this is big. During the entire show he hardly had any kind words. I hope Elsie takes them to heart and keep persevering. She was truly great. If you haven't see it yet, there are only three contestants left. Check it out on FOX. It come on Mondays at 9/8c.

Why?
Oh why, oh why, oh why?
Why is your family the way it is?
Why are children emulating violence?
Why are parents blaming tv, vidoe games, and music for their children's behavior?
Why are we spending billions on a police action and underfunding education?
Why am I getting spammed on ICQ?
Why spam?
Why does life saving prescription drugs cost so much?
Why is there no cure for cancer nor aids?
Why does this country continually teach their enemies how to fight us?
Why can't we have peace in the world?
Why are my classmates coming home in body bags?
Why are my friends traumatized by what they went through?
Why are there less hotdog buns in a pack than hotdogs?
Oh why, oh why, oh why?
