FEMA, Alaskan Company Shortchanges Mississippi - News - MSNBC.com

Mississippi is only receiving 1.8 percent of the FEMA rebuilding contracts. This seems to be a very low percent considering that this state was hit pretty hard by Hurricane Katrina. It seems the federal government is still screwing the people over. This time by not awarding rebuilding contracts to contractor from MS thereby stymieing much needed jobs that could be created, rebuilding the states depleted revenue system, and rebuilding hope for its people.

Some might see this a melodramatic or bellyaching by a Mississippian but you do the math. To quote the article:

"A Washington Post investigation revealed $2 billion worth of government contracts given out, but only 3.8 percent are done by companies in Alabama, 2.8 percent in Louisiana and just 1.8 in Mississippi.

Added together, it's less than $200 million or a $2 billion pool."

That's tax revenue that will not be generated (schools underfunded, state workers underpaid, state funded programs cut). Oh and by the way minority companies, their percentage is less than that.

The Road of Life - Who's Driving Your Car?

The road of Life has many twist and turns. It's filled with S curves and hair pin turns. My curves so far have been my mother's illness. It's hard to see someone who's been your rock throughout your life crying from pain. How do you deal with it all? How do you deal with seeing someone whom you are very, very close to in agonizing pain daily? It's a good thing that I'm not driving my own car through Life. I have a wonderful driver. He is the best at navigating these dangerous roads. He knows exactly when a pit stop is needed, He knows exactly when to speed up and slow down. I'm thankful for His expertise, the blessings, and the moves He's made in my life.
